Museum Recognizes Oklahoma Educators

NORMAN –In an effort to recognize the hard work and dedication of Oklahoma’s educators, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History will provide complimentary admission to all Oklahoma pre-k through 12th-grade teachers and their families during the month of October.

Also during Teacher Appreciation Month, the museum will offer teachers family memberships at a discounted cost of $35 from $45. Membership to the museum provides complimentary admission for two adults and children in the family under the age of 18. Additionally, members receive Tracks, the museum newsletter, and discounts in Excavations, the museum store, and on educational programs and birthday parties. More on memberships here.

The Sam Noble Museum offers a wide range of innovative educational programs, exhibits and experiences that inspire learners of all ages to understand the natural and cultural world. For more information about professional development workshops, museum fieldtrip funding opportunities and inquiry-based programs offered at the museum and in classrooms throughout Oklahoma, visit www.education.snomnh.ou.edu/schoolprograms.

Visitors can enjoy two new exhibits in October. Beginning Sept. 28, Masterworks of Native American Art: Selections from the Fred and Enid Brown Collection features works from the Native American fine arts movement of the 20th century, reflecting a recent chapter in a long history of artistic expression by the indigenous people of North America. Opening Oct. 19 and sponsored by the OU Division of Student Affairs and Sooner Parents, The Art of Sport + Play tells a story about the universal power of sport. The free, public opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus at Timberdell Road and Chautauqua Avenue.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors 65 and up, and $3 for youth ages 6 to 17. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free. Discounts are available for military personnel and their immediate families. For accommodations on the basis of disability, call (405) 325-4712.
