LIONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS GRACE ART EXHIBIT AT THE SAM NOBLE MUSEUM

Lions and tigers and bears are just a few of the many animals visitors will see at a special exhibition opening April 30 at the Sam Noble Museum in Norman. Art and the Animal is a traveling exhibition featuring more than 60 works of art by members of the Society of Animal Artists. The works were chosen from the Society’s 50th annual juried show that took place in fall 2010. The exhibit will be on view through Sept. 5.

The diversity of animals in this beautiful exhibition is matched by the diversity of art styles and mediums. Subjects range from a photo-realistic graphite drawing of a crate of chickens to a stylized bronze sculpture of a grasshopper perched on the end of a blade of grass. Mediums include paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor, sculptures in stone, metal and wood, pyrography, scratchboard and pastels. The diversity of artwork reflects and celebrates the amazing diversity of life on Earth.

The Society of Animal Artists is an organization comprised of members who produce some of the finest animal art in the world. Consequently, The Annual Exhibition of The Society of Animal Artists and its traveling exhibition, Art and the Animal, have become the standard by which all others are measured. The Sam Noble Museum is located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus at Timberdell Road and Chautauqua Avenue. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors age 65 and up, and $3 for children ages 6 to 17. Children ages 5 and under are free.
