Museum To Be Open During Holiday Break
The holiday season is a perfect time for bringing out-of-town family and friends to visit the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman. The museum will be open throughout the holiday break, with the exception of Christmas day and New Year’s day. Holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Visitors to the museum during the holidays also will enjoy the special Oklahoma centennial exhibition “Collecting Oklahoma,” featuring objects and specimens collected over the past 100 years from areas across the state. Highlights include the 27-foot-long backbone of an elasmosaur, a marine reptile that swam in the warm shallow seas covering Oklahoma more than 90 million years ago. "Collecting Oklahoma" is made possible by the Merkel Family Foundation, Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, the Kerr Foundation, Inc, and Republic Bank and Trust, with media support from CNHI Oklahoma and Cox Communications.
At 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, the museum also offers “Discovery Time,” a half-hour program for pre-school and elementary-age children in the Discovery Room featuring museum specimens, live animals or crafts.
The museum is located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus at 2401 Chautauqua Avenue. Additional information about the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is available on the museum’s Web site: www.snomnh.ou.edu or by calling (405) 325-4712.
