TEACHERS GET THE GOODIES AT MUSEUM TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY

Oklahoma teachers bring more than 20,000 school children visit the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History every year. They come from communities nearby, and from as far away as Vinita, Hugo and Woodward. Across the state of Oklahoma, teachers are making the museum a part of their educational toolkit: drawing on the museum’s fascinating exhibits, scientific expertise and vast storehouse of artifacts to spark their students’ imaginations and enthusiasm for subjects from paleontology to biology to Oklahoma history. On Friday, Oct. 19, the museum thanks teachers across the state with Teacher Appreciation Day, featuring free admission for teachers and giveaways from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Teacher Appreciation Day will include free access to museum galleries for teachers, tours of museum classrooms and demonstrations of object-based learning activities such as those used in museum classroom programs. Museum educators will be on hand to talk with teachers about museum programs, answer questions and provide information about resources available to teachers, including classroom loan kits, pre-visit materials and professional development workshop opportunities for educators. There will be door prizes and giveaways throughout the day for teachers, as well.

Additional information about the museum’s educational programs is available on the Web at www.snomnh.ou.edu/education, or by calling the museum education department at (405) 325-4712. The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus at 2401 Chautauqua Ave.
